"66 Courts"
Groom Texas

This is an old, familiar, scene in Groom, Texas. This motel has been abandoned since at least the early 1970's. The photo was taken in 1990.

Route 66 used to run directly through Groom but when Interstate 40 was built to replace Route 66, it bypassed the town. Many of the motels, gas stations, and other businesses in Groom went out of business due to the reduced traffic coming through town. This led to abandoned lots like this throughout what was once a prosperous business district.

It's difficult to see at this resolution unless you're very familiar with old American autos but both of the cars in this photo are Ford Edsel's.

Please note that this is a borderless print. I have added a thin black border to the image on this website to make it stand out from the white background.
